Duties and Responsibilities

Loyola University Chicago School of Law’s Beazley Institute for Health Law & Policy is seeking candidates to fill its Beazley Chair in Health Law and Policy. The prestigious endowed chair was established to honor the late Bernard and Kathleen Beazley. A 1950 Loyola Law graduate, Mr. Beazley served as general counsel and senior vice president of Dentsply International, one of the largest professional dental products companies in the world. He also served on Loyola’s President’s Advisory Council and was a member of the Shield of Loyola University Chicago, the planned giving society.
We invite applications from full-time, tenured, lateral candidates specializing in health law and policy, with appointment to commence in Fall 2023. Candidates must be tenured and have significant law school teaching experience and academic reputation. We are especially interested in candidates focusing on public health law who can assist in fostering interdisciplinary connections with the recently established Parkinson School of Health Sciences and Public Health, including the development of a joint JD/ MPH program. Loyola University Chicago School of Law is dedicated as a faculty to contribute to a deeper understanding of law, legal institutions, and systems of oppression through a commitment to transformation, intersectionality, and anti-subordination in our teaching, research, scholarship, and public service. Job Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Beazley Chair in Health Law & Policy will include:
1) Extensive scholarly research and publication;
2) Teaching one to two courses in health law and policy and related areas of individual expertise per semester, and willingness to teach in the 1L curriculum;
3) Service to the School of Law, University, and community;
4) Participation in School of Law faculty governance and committee work;
5) Active involvement in student mentoring and advising;
6) Engagement with Beazley Institute faculty on health law and policy matters both within the School of Law and throughout the University;
7) Significant engagement with academic institutions and professional organizations in health law and policy, including frequent participation in local, regional, and national meetings and symposia; and
8) Collaboration with the School of Public Health to create a joint JD/ MPH program.

Qualifications

The qualifications required for the Beazley Chair in Health Law & Policy are:
1) Juris Doctor degree (J.D.) from an accredited institution;
2) Broad recognition for scholarly distinction in a recognized area of health law and policy;
3) Established publication record in health law and policy;
4) Clearly developed long term research agenda;
5) Strong commitment to social justice issues as they relate to health law and policy; and
6) Significant record of teaching experience.
Additional valued qualifications include:
1) Significant practice experience in health law and policy or related area;
2) History of active engagement with legal practice groups in areas related to health law and policy; and
3) Established record of interdisciplinary research, publication, and teaching.
