Job Summary:
The Operations and Events Coordinator is an integral part of the daily operation of the Office of Student Involvement and Engagement (OSIE), as well as the Division of Student Life. Under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Student Involvement and Engagement, the Coordinator will assist the daily operations of the OSIE, the Trone Student Center, and corresponding events.

The Coordinator will collaborate with colleagues in the Office of Student Involvement and Engagement to further its strategic initiatives related to diversity and inclusion, new student orientation, leadership development, student organization management, and student center operations. In so doing, the Coordinator will support the mission of the OSIE to create a vibrant campus in which students enjoy a broad experience within a close-knit community. Finally, the Coordinator will support the learning outcomes of the Division of Student Life.

Job Description:


Department Support

Serves as first point of contact for the OSIE, providing exceptional customer service to students, faculty, staff, parents and guests.

Manages department-sponsored event logistics including catering, space reservations, and entertainment/vendor contracts.

Coordinates the Summer Orientation registration process via Slate (admissions software), collaborating with colleagues in the Admissions Office as needed.

Assists in the recruitment, selection, training and supervision of Orientation Leaders.

Oversees the Trone Student Center space reservation process, including supervising the Student Reservations Managers.

Manages external rentals of Trone Student Center spaces, including invoicing and payments. Collaborates with the Office of Conference and Event Services as appropriate.

Assists in the selection, training, and supervision of the Trone Student Staff.

Serves as a Workday specialist for the OSIE and the Campus Recreation and Wellness department, particularly with student employment and financial management.

Creates and distributes effective marketing materials and publications for the OSIE in accordance with University branding guidelines.

Manages department websites and social media.

Student Organization Support

Assists treasurers of the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Furman University Student Activities Board (FUSAB) with day-to-day financial operations, ensuring University policies and processes are followed.

Manages the SGA credit card check-out process and reconciliation in Workday.

Collaborates with the Director of Student Involvement to manage and administer syncDIN (Engage platform), Furman's student organization management system.

General Responsibilities

Serves on other campus committees as assigned.

Conducts professional development activities, with approval by the Associate Dean.

Completes performance review process with supervisor to understand job performance expectations and how they fit into the department and University goals.

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the goals and objectives of the department and the Division of Student Life. Routine contact with parents and the general public to exchange factual information and explanation of rules, regulations, practices or functions.

Responsibility for Final Decisions:

Reviews work to ensure compliance with procedures and deadlines.

Tasks involve multiple procedures with interrelated processes or steps. Work involves choosing the appropriate option or procedure to follow and applying established rules and procedures.

Errors may be detected within the department or section in which they occur, but may affect the work of others within the unit to trace errors and make corrections.

Reports To: Associate Dean of Student Involvement and Engagement

Work is performed independently on routine work, non-routine issues or questions are referred to the supervisor.

Education/Skill Requirements:

Bachelor's degree required.

Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.

Proven event planning and marketing experience.

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.

Ability to interact with a diverse population and maintain a positive attitude in time of crisis.

Understanding of the importance of student learning outcomes and assessment preferred.

Work Conditions:

Work is performed under usual office conditions.

Some evening and weekend hours required.
