The Conservatory of Music at Capital University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty member as Director of Wind Ensembles. The successful candidate will have significant experience and a documented record of success as a conductor and teacher at the collegiate and/or high school level. Success with student recruitment and retention is expected. Salary depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. This is a 9-month contract beginning in Fall 2023.

Major responsibilities: The successful candidate should be prepared to lead the Symphonic Winds (Capital’s premier instrumental ensemble), Wind Symphony, coordinate the Band Festival, teach undergraduate courses in instrumental conducting and instrumental pedagogy, and maintain a visible recruiting profile. Additional responsibilities may include (but are not limited to) teaching courses identified as departmental needs or other areas within the candidate's area of expertise. The successful candidate will also maintain an active profile of service and artistic activity, provide academic advisement to students, participate on committees, and provide service to the university and profession. An extra stipend is available to direct the Columbus Youth Symphonic Band one night per week, to teach in the summer Masters of Music in Music Education program, to coordinate the Complete Band Director Workshop, and to direct the Winds and Percussion middle school camp.

Qualifications: Doctorate in Music or Master's in Music with equivalent and relevant professional experience. Demonstrated pedagogical success in educational settings, including understanding of methods and practices of effective ensemble training and the ability to work within a highly collaborative learning environment is expected. Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively and in a collegial, professional manner with students, faculty and staff; demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.
