Position Description

Situated on the unceded, ancestral and traditional territory of the dxʷdəwʔabš (Duwamish people), the College of Education at The University of Washington, Seattle, seeks an advanced Associate or Full Professor in Teacher Education, open to all content areas. This is a nine-month, full-time tenured position. The successful candidate will be expected to serve as the Boeing Endowed Professor, which was originally endowed in 1991.

 

We are seeking a visionary educator to provide leadership in the scholarship and practice of Teacher Education within the College of Education, in Washington state, and across the field of teacher education. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Active research agenda focused on intersectional, justice-centered teacher education scholarship and practice, especially as it relates to race, decolonization, disability, language, gender, sexuality, and other minoritized social markers.
  • Experience with serving as a leader on issues of teacher education (e.g., with local communities, on campus, with local school districts, at the state/national level).
  • Sustained engagement in community partnerships focused on justice-centered issues of teaching, learning, and/or teacher education (e.g., partnerships with Indigenous and tribal communities, Black and intersectional communities of color).
  • Strong communication and convening skills to cultivate brave and humanizing spaces, building across fields and programs in service of advancing justice-focused teacher education policy, practice, and research.

 

Our new colleague will be expected to:

 

  • Serve as an intellectual leader and thought partner on all matters of teacher education with the Dean and College Leadership, the Assistant Dean of Teacher Education, and the Directors of the Teacher Education Pathways/Certificate Programs, as well as with the local communities to which the College is accountable (e.g., Tribal nations, local communities of color, school districts, state).
  • Identify, build, and deepen synergies among the justice-centered teacher education scholarship and practice that exist in the College.
  • Advise doctoral students in teacher education, teach courses on teacher education for graduate students, contribute substantially to shaping the growing doctoral program in teacher education, and potentially teach in a teacher preparation program.
  • Create opportunities for graduate students, instructors, and faculty to engage in research in the College’s teacher education programs in support of program renewal.

 

Our new colleague will join with the area of Teaching Learning Curriculum (TLC) faculty as well as other faculty in the college who share a strong commitment to equity and justice in teacher education and society.

The Teacher Education Program graduates approximately 225 candidates a year, over half of whom identify as people of color. The College also houses a growing doctoral program in Teacher Education and Teacher Learning for Justice.

Qualifications

All candidates must have an earned doctorate or foreign equivalent in a relevant field or discipline by the date of appointment, such as, but not limited to, teacher education; teaching, learning and curriculum; social foundations of education.
