Job Description

The Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity (CEED) is seeking an Assistant Director for Graduate Student Programs. This position reports to the Director of Graduate Student Programs and is responsible for developing high impact academic, professional, and personal support programs for traditionally underrepresented graduate students in the College of Engineering. The Assistant Director for Graduate Student Programs will be responsible for the implementation of the New Horizon Graduate Scholars Program, Peer Mentoring, and GEM Fellows programs among others. The Assistant Director will create and maintain systems to ensure that student participants are seamlessly connected to the CEED Office and other student service offices to support retention and graduation rates.

The Assistant Director for Graduate Student Programs is responsible for the programmatic and operational management and accountable for the participant’s success. They will support the data collection and analysis of events for evaluation purposes for applying to grants, and assist with reviewing and monitor the diverse applications within the college. The Assistant Director for Graduate Student Programs will participate in the HBCU/MSI Research Summit and other special recruitment events for the college.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: This position requires a highly motivated individual with the ability to deliver a high level of interactive customer service, develop and maintain collaborative relationships within the College and University environment. The Assistant Director for Graduate Student Programs must be able to work independently with limited supervision.

Required Qualifications

A Master’s degree in Engineering, Education, Counseling, Student Personnel Services or a relevant field is required. Experience with the design, implementation, coordination or management of services or retention within the secondary/post-secondary level is also required. The successful candidate will also possess excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, as well as proficiency in using social media and other electronic methods of communication. Familiarity with the SLATE, Microsoft Suite of Office Applications is required. This position must work well with students, faculty and staff at all levels within a diverse, multi-cultural, collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in student support programs or experience with programs designed to support student development. Also, a strong understanding of student development theory, student engagement literature, and high impact practices.
