Job Description

The Assistant Director for Leadership Engagement is responsible for developing and implementing leadership education and programming that advances the objectives of VT Engage: The Center for Leadership & Service Learning. The position manages all aspects of student leadership programs including; The Big Event at Virginia Tech, and the National Society for Leadership & Success at Virginia Tech.

They will also lead multiple campus wide initiatives for leadership development including the I WILL Leadership Institute, and Lead for Good workshop series.

The Assistant Director will coordinate efforts with curricular programs to cultivate and maintain mutually beneficial relationships on leadership with campus and community partners as needed. This position will work to develop student leadership competencies to support student learning in leadership education in conjunction with the associate director of VT Engage.

The Assistant Director is a key member of the VT Engage management team and reports to the Associate Director for VT Engage. The position will directly supervise the Graduate Assistant for Leadership & Civic Engagement.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in higher education administration, leadership education, nonprofit management, or related field.
• Demonstrated commitment to issues and initiatives related to social justice, leadership education, or community engagement.
• Must be detail-oriented.
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Some evening and weekend work required.
• Experience with supervision of student staff or volunteers required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hold a valid driver’s license with a driving record in good standing
• Demonstrated knowledge of student development and leadership theories.
• Experience developing partnerships with student affairs areas or community-based organizations.
• Knowledge of assessment of student learning, community impact or leadership education.
