Durham University is founded on
philanthropy, established through a generous gift by Bishop van
Mildert in 1832 that included Durham Castle and much of the land
and buildings we still occupy today. Durham University is proud to
have one of the most committed and vibrant global alumni
communities of any UK academic institution, whose loyalty and
generosity have factored in establishing Durham as one of the very
best universities in the UK.
Building on this history, the
University is now seeking to appoint a Director of Development to
lead the Development and Alumni Relations (DARO) team. Reporting
directly to the Director of Advancement, Marketing and
Communications, you will work closely with and support the
Vice-Chancellor, and will have a dotted line to the Vice-Chancellor
in respect of specified major projects.
This is a new senior leadership
role, integral to the successful delivery of Durham University's
strategic objectives; leading philanthropy and alumni to support
engagement to develop a programme to grow substantially the level
of gifts that Durham attracts globally. Building on a strong base,
you will develop and deliver a global principal gifts strategy that
prioritises identified targets whilst also seeking out new funders
who have a strong interest in supporting Durham, personally leading
approaches focused on seven-figure principal and major gifts.
You will be an experienced leader,
with a track record of supporting, growing, and developing teams to
increase performance in a way which inspires and motivates staff at
all levels. You will bring significant fundraising experience,
working closely with senior colleagues to raise six and seven
figure gifts from a variety of donors including alumni and
supporters, philanthropists, trusts, charities and companies along
with experience of global philanthropy and the cultural nuances
that shape giving.
Durham
University are working in partnership with Gatenby Sanderson to
recruit to this post.
If you feel you
have the skills and experience, we are looking for then we would be
delighted to hear from you.
