Description
The Department of Religious Studies at Colby College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track
assistant professor in American Religion with a focus on Christianity, beginning September 1, 2023.
The teaching load is 4.5 courses, including the survey “Religion in America” and a course on
Christianity. The candidate will also be expected to offer other courses on a rotating basis, including
the department’s new core courses (“Thinking About Religion Today” and “Senior Capstone”) and
courses contributing to the American Studies program. We welcome courses that complement the
current curriculum, especially ones that address issues of gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, and class.
Such courses may include, but are not limited to, “Religion and Politics in the US” and “African-
American Religion.” The department values collegiality, intensive engagement with students, and
faculty contributions to the life of our diverse community, both within the college and beyond.
