Job Description Summary

Provide direct management, supervision and coordination for early college access programs, orientation services, and staff who support program participants through structured front door experiences, pre-advising, and program initiatives. The Program Director oversees components that assist program participants in developing their career/life decision making skills, transition and coping strategies, and gaining connections to the campus. Oversee the facilitation of New Student Orientation and other specialized orientations, to include dual enrollment orientations, parent sessions, and related transition programs. Ensure overall program and service success through various assessments.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree required in education, counseling, social work, or related field from an accredited institution, plus minimum of two (2) years of full-time or equivalent experience in providing direct services in an educational or social service environment working with at-risk college students, providing enrollment/recruitment, academic, personal, and/or career guidance and advice.
  • Must have supervised personnel a minimum of two years.
  • Master’s degree preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability and flexibility to work evening and weekend hours for outreach, recruitment and advisement to students and parents not limited to Parent/Teacher meetings, student activities/engagement, and/or evening visits for supervised staff.
  • Familiarity with a large urban school system, Prince George’s County Public School preferred.
  • Knowledge of the guidelines for partnerships, agreements, and programs that impact students of color college admission, enrollment, matriculation, graduation, transfer and career planning/development.
  • Knowledge of student development and best practices to meet students’ needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written Standard English.
  • Proficient in the use of various technologies used in the work setting, such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Colleague, social media, etc.
  • Ability to perform detailed work independently, as well as, in a team environment.
  • Skill in time management, organization, assessment and making data-driven decisions.
  • Able to demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking skills on a daily basis; use interactive data systems to analyze, interpret and report data.
  • Skill in coordinating and conducting timely, informative and engaging workshops, presentations, information sessions and planning sessions one-on-one and in group format.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Provides direct foundation and leadership for the comprehensive and effective development and implementation of early college access programs (e.g. Dual Enrollment, Concurrent Enrollment, etc..).
  • Develop annual short- and long-term goals and objectives for the Early College Access Program and Orientation services, staff and internal/external partners.
  • Understands all facets of Early College Access Program and Orientation services and responsibilities; facilitate any operation, if necessary.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff; Facilitates appointments with all staff including monthly staff meetings.
  • Develops collaborative, effective working relationships and programs with Prince George’s County Public Schools Office of College and Career Readiness and Innovative Programs and Prince George’s Community College campus offices/departments who are critical to new student success.
  • Understands the guidelines for partnerships, agreements, and programs that impact transfer and career planning.
  • Assesses all programs, services and initiatives; Maintain accurate data collection to ensure the learning outcomes and program outcomes are met. Report the findings on a monthly basis to the Director of Recruitment & Admissions.
  • Responsible to assist department with the analysis of data and trends in support of enrollment initiatives to meet enrollment targets and improve services.
  • Coordinates the development, production and dissemination of promotional, marketing, training and informational materials for ECAP &O program services; Includes social media engagement.
  • Develops, coordinates, recruits, presents, facilitates and evaluates a training program for students who have been selected to serve as Student Ambassadors to enable them to integrate student development theory into New Student Orientation planning and programming.
  • Oversees the coordination, recruitment and orientation of approximately 3,500 new students annually.
  • Assists with Peak Registration, specifically co-managing the online orientation facilitation.
  • Be knowledgeable of and accurately communicates present and previous college catalog requirements, placement score interpretation, transfer program requirements, alternate instructional formats, and campus resources and services.
  • Provides general enrollment/admissions, academic, career, and transfer advising, financial aid and scholarship information, and college success strategies to new students.
  • Assists program participants in use of ARTSYS, CANVAS, Owl Link, MYPGCC Student Portal, and other web-based student services.
  • Interprets High School Transcript, PARCC, Accuplacer, Michigan, SAT, ACT test results, and/or identifies the proper prerequisites and course sequences for program participants.
  • Identifies and directs students to appropriate resources or departments for specialized on and off campus resources to meet individual needs.
  • Assists students in resolving problems that impede a smooth registration process.
  • Interprets and accurately communicates college policies and procedures for students, faculty and staff.
  • Provides ECAP &O pre-admission information and services to prospective students, families, community and other constituents in a variety of formats and locations including peak registration, individual sessions, community meetings, classroom visits, college/community fairs and group sessions.
  • Registers student for courses when waivers are necessary. Troubleshoots and resolves issues to facilitate student registration and documents findings and resolutions in STRK .
  • Responsible for communications management relative to program participants.
  • Oversees ECAP &O team in establishment, maintenance, and analysis of files, records, reports, and/or data to support programming needs.
  • Oversees the marketing, recruitment, selection, scheduling and coordination of hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of staff, interns, work study students, student ambassadors and volunteers.
  • Maintains currency with professional literature related to early college access, recruitment, orientation and enrollment; keep staff and the Director of Recruitment & Admissions apprised of industry trends and developments.
  • Identifies and implements critical customer services standards in support of the college’s mission and strategic plan.

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. No significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions

  • Must be able to work Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
