Wesleyan University invites applications for an endowed professorship in Earth and Environmental Science at the rank of associate or full professor to begin in July 1, 2023.
We seek a scientist who will contribute to our programs in Climate Change, Sustainability, and Environmental Management. We are especially interested in a scientist in one of three areas: (i) environmental epidemiology; (ii) protection of natural resources; or (iii) extinction. Special consideration will be given to candidates with a strong record of impactful, scholarly publications that have direct implications for the effects of climate change, or candidates whose work is beneficial to policy makers. Demonstrated ability to mentor undergraduate students in research would be considered a strength.
The position will be a joint appointment in the department of Earth & Environmental Sciences and Wesleyan’s interdisciplinary College of the Environment. The person is expected to teach three courses per year and contribute to the Environmental Studies core curriculum.
Wesleyan University is highly selective and values both scholarship and teaching, has a strong, diverse undergraduate student body, and offers a generous sabbatical program and competitive salaries and benefits. Additional information about the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences can be found at https://www.wesleyan.edu/ees . Information about the College of the Environment can be found at https://www.wesleyan.edu/coe/. For questions or further information, please contact the College of the Environment director, Barry Chernoff (bchernoff@wesleyan.edu).

Special Instructions To Applicants

You will be asked to upload electronic versions of the items we require, which are: (1) a cover letter of application, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) a statement about your teaching philosophy and methods, (4) a research statement highlighting research accomplishments and future directions. In the cover letter, candidates should describe how they will embrace the college’s commitment to fostering an inclusive community, as well as their experience working with individuals from historically marginalized or underserved groups.

You will also be asked to provide the email addresses of three referees from whom we may obtain confidential letters of recommendation (please double-check the accuracy of the email addresses of the referees you name to ensure that you have the most up-to-date email addresses for each one).
