Job Description Summary
The Instructional Designer with Inclusive Pedagogy focus plays an
important role in furthering Bentley's commitment to inclusive
pedagogy by developing and implementing learning opportunities for
faculty. This position involves meeting with faculty and key
stakeholders in individual settings as well as presenting to large
groups. It is expected that this person serve as a strong
ambassador for maximizing learning design, assurance of learning,
and inclusive teaching practices.
The Instructional Designer partners with faculty, multimedia
developers, and learning technology specialists to adapt existing
courses for hybrid delivery as well as developing courses that can
be offered fully online. The Instructional Designer provides
expertise critical to creating innovative, inclusive, and
standards-compliant courses that deepen student learning, improve
the student experience for all students, and take full advantage of
the affordances of modern digital learning pedagogies and
technologies. Applying expertise in design, education,
classroom-based techniques for inclusive excellence, and digital
learning and collaboration tools, the Instructional Designer will
be key to improving student outcomes at Bentley and helping us
deliver on a transformative undergraduate student learning
experience.
Essential duties include:
• Provide training and outreach efforts on inclusive pedagogy,
assurance of learning, and instructional design. Represent the
Learning Design Team in committees and presentations.
• Work closely with faculty to envision, plan, coordinate and
maintain design and development of face-to-face, hybrid and blended
courses
• Create digital learning experiences ranging from discrete
learning objects for a blended course to fully online asynchronous
courses
• Diagnose and advise faculty and administrators on the quality of
online learning experiences, based on established criteria
• Participate in course- and program-level curriculum mapping and
design initiatives
• Consult with faculty, administrators, and others on best
practices in creating inclusive classroom climates and culturally
responsive pedagogies, especially within hybrid course and program
design and delivery
Essential Duties
Inclusive Pedagogy
- Serve as a key resource in the learning design team for faculty developing courses with DEI focus.
- Develop, along with other administrators, a strategy for providing instructors ongoing inclusive pedagogy trainings, workshops and institutes.
- Facilitate and present on best practices in inclusive teaching and learning.
- Develop strategies to assess the efficacy of inclusive pedagogy engagement opportunities for instructors.
Instructional Design
- Build or integrate web-based learning resources into face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses.
- Contribute to design, assessment, customization, and continuous improvement of instructional design templates, using them to help faculty construct learning objects, modules, units, and courses.
- Consult with faculty on and support development of learning activities and assessments connected to measurable learning objectives.
- Support faculty efforts to enhance classroom climate with inclusive instructional materials and assignment design
- Use a variety of computing platforms, software, audio-visual equipment, and other technologies to design solutions to pedagogical challenges.
- Work individually and collaboratively to meet deadlines and expectations set for course design projects.
- Support faculty in incorporating and interpreting learning analytics in courses and programs.
Collaboration, Project Management and Communication
- Organize, prioritize, and schedule multiple work assignments to enable positive contributions to project teams.
- Serve as project manager for instructional design projects, communicating progress to instructional design leads and management.
- Respond in a timely and professional manner to requests for information.
- Adhere to communications and transparency guidelines, as established by project leads and managers.
- Attend and be a positive contributor at check-in and team meetings
Professional Development
- Stay up-to-date on emerging trends and technologies related to learning solutions development and instructional design.
- Stay up-to-date on new research and best practices in inclusive pedagogies
- Share new findings and insights with colleagues and stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's Degree. Master's degree in curriculum & instruction, adult education, learning design, or related field preferred.
- 1 year of experience working as an instructional designer or similar role.
- Experience in creating inclusive classroom climates and culturally responsive pedagogies, especially within hybrid course and programs, also preferred. Experience working with faculty in a higher education setting strongly preferred.
- Proficiency preferred using a Learning Management System (i.e. Blackboard) and eLearning authoring tools like Articulate Storyline/360 to develop interactive content.
Work Environment
- Typical office setting with extensive sitting and computer work.
- Ability to travel around campus for meetings and other work related events.
