About the opportunity

Southern Cross University’s Faculty of Health is expanding their health programs to prepare the next generation of dedicated counsellors and are seeking a Professor, Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer of Counselling to lead the delivery of a new counselling program. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact in the world by designing engaging learning experiences and building connections with industry and community to develop accredited counselling professionals.

We are seeking applications from compassionate, ethical and talented academics to significantly contribute to the overall development, learning and teaching, research and engagement with relevant organisations to equip our students with the skills and ability to transform tomorrow, today. Additionally, you will:

  • Contribute to the design of curriculum and delivery of unique counselling units; and
  • Undertake quality interdisciplinary research and other professional activities that promote the discipline, Faculty and University more broadly.

About you

To be considered for this position, you will be a qualified counsellor/counsellor educator and possess a PhD or be close to completion of a PhD in psychology or a relevant area. You will be passionate and committed to the development of the counselling discipline to ensure the courses offer an enriched learning experience. In addition, you will demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to contribute to innovative curriculum in the counselling discipline. More specifically, you will have:

  • Eligibility for or current registration with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA);
  • Demonstrated teaching success evidenced by learning outcomes;
  • A growing publication record relative to opportunity; and
  • Established relationships with key academics, industry or professional institutions and a proven ability to network.

To be considered for an appointment at Professor/Associate Professor, you will possess a PhD and leadership experience and scholarly achievement at a senior level.

Salary and benefits

  • Full-time, continuing (permanent)
  • Located at either Coffs Harbour, Gold Coast or Lismore. Generous relocation support available.
  • Academic Level E, D or C:
    • The base salary for Academic Level E is $190,982 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $223,448.
    • The base salary for Academic Level D ranges from $148,746-$163,655 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $191,476.
    • The base salary for Academic Level C ranges from $123,900-$142,531 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $166,761.
