Position Summary
Coordinator
Educational Access Programs
Full-Time
The purpose of Educational Access Programs (EAP) is to enhance the quality of the educational experience for minority students, first generation students, and all students in general, through programs, services, advocacy, and referral to appropriate resources.
EAP is actively involved in the enrollment development functions of the University with respect to the recruitment and retention of minority students.
Educational Access Programs promotes student development by:
- Provides college awareness, career readiness, financial aid, leadership and scholarship activities for EAP students (125+)
- Maintains a student caseload consisting of students from the financial and leadership programs of EAP (60-75) and supervises the caseload management of the EAP graduate assistant (50)
- Supervises the graduate and undergraduate student staff in EAP
- Manages the scholarship programs affiliated with the EAP: These awards include the College Access Partners Award (75), Matching Success Award (60), Merit Award (60), Textbook Award (100), Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship (5), and the Dr. Donald M. Suggs Scholarship (1)
- Facilitates application, awarding and renewal processes associated with these scholarships
- Manages the EAP Mentorship Program, including the selection and training of mentors and mentees (30)
- Manages the College Success and Financial Responsibility Seminars (7-10 per semester)
- Manages the Outreach & Retention Programs that includes first generation support
- Establishes and maintains collaborative efforts on and off campus to identify opportunities for grants, scholarships, and leadership opportunities for EAP students
- Designs, implements and assesses activities and services designed to increase retention and graduation rates of EAP students
- Utilizes the Southeast SupportNET communication system to establish and maintain relationships with students; and to intervene with at-risk students
- Coordinates activities for current students to participate in campus and community-based activities that develop their career and leadership skills
- Participates in campus and community-based activities and events that assist in creating a defined presence in the community and develop connections for the University (career awareness, skill development, scholarships)
- Provides support for the completion and submission of annual reports and program assessment for EAP programs
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Previous experience working with and advising at-risk students
- Previous experience collaborating with disadvantaged and/or underrepresented students on a college campus or in higher education
- Experience supervising student staff
- Experience working with scholarship programs
- Experience with equity programming and initiatives
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with disadvantaged students, faculty, and staff from a wide variety of racial, ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds with an understanding of issues affecting women and minorities
