Job Description
The Senior Assistant Director of Financial Aid & Data Systems assists in the management of operations of the Student Financial Assistance (SFA) Office and will report directly to the Director. This position may be hired as a hybrid position for the right candidate. Hybrid is defined as remote work with the expectation that the employee physically works on campus 3-4 times per month and during special events/meetings as necessary.

Primary Responsibilities
  • This position will assist in management of day-to-day operations of the SFA office to ensure accurate and timely delivery of financial aid information to students, parents, and the campus community.
  • Operations duties include, but are not limited to:
    • Federal verification
    • State aid administration
    • Private scholarship processing
    • NCAA aid reporting
    • Federal and institutional work study processing
    • Private and parent PLUS loan processing
  • The Senior Assistant Director works collaboratively with the Director and Compliance Officer to ensure federal and state compliance. This position will initiate, recommend, develop, and implement office policy and procedures and will consistently provide procedural support to the professional and administrative SFA staff.
  • This position is responsible for supporting all software maintenance and implementation for programs used by the Student Financial Assistance Office and will be responsible for the overall training of each staff member related to new technology.
  • This position will be required to assist the Director with all audit and reporting requirements of the office and will be the point of contact with the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) system. This position works with Admissions and Registrar on data integration and data integrity. Acts as the secondary Destination Point Administrator (DPA).
  • The Senior Assistant Director manages the automation and development of the financial aid module of the PeopleSoft student information system (SIS) and is considered the functional lead for SFA on the PeopleSoft campus and system teams. This position will build and maintain all PeopleSoft queries, current student communications within the system, and automated processes. This position will be responsible for data inbound and outbound processes and will be responsible for packaging students with institutional, state, and federal aid programs. This position will be responsible for testing and implementing new functionality in the system and is the point of contact for UM System programmers with Enterprise Applications Services (EAS) and Perceptive Content (imaging) teams.
  • This position will be responsible for any technical needs related to financial aid activities within the Slate customer relationship management (CRM) system and will work closely with the Senior Assistant Director Financial Aid & Outreach position for content creation and daily processing needs. This includes, but is not limited to, report writing, postcard creation and mailing and general maintenance of financial aid data within the system. Activities will support campus recruitment goals.
  • The Senior Assistant Director will lead the operations team of 2-3 full time staff members and 2-3 student workers.
  • This position serves as a lead financial aid administrator in the absence of the Director.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in business administration, student personnel services, information technology, or a related area.
  • Experience of leadership skills working with professional and office support staff, excellent organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, interacting professionally with diverse personalities and excellent verbal and written communication skills are requested.
  • The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong working knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations, strong interpersonal presentation skills; self-starter; able to work with minimum supervision when required; strong attention to detail; exceptional customer service and interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal and presentation); knowledge of PeopleSoft, Slate and the Microsoft Office Suite a strong plus.
