Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Math, Engineering or other related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year progressive experience in the field of information technology;

or

• Bachelors degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of progressive experience in the field of information technology;

or

• an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Information Technology Services is looking for a driven Network Engineer to enhance and secure Appalachian State University’s computer networks. The primary role will be analyzing our network’s performance, collaborating with our IT department to increase network capacity, and providing IT network support. The network engineer should have a basic knowledge of network design and infrastructure best practices and be willing to learn. The network engineer will also be someone whose network expertise translates into the fast, stable, and secure exchange of information.

Primary Purpose of Position

This Position is an Infrastructure Engineer in the Infrastructure Architecture & Engineering team. The Infrastructure Engineers form the backbone of ITIS and have multiple roles. This position’s areas of responsibility will range from participating in the architecting and implementation of solutions to the administration of IT systems and services. Additionally, this position will function as the first contact for the resolution and future prevention of support issues.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Administration of assigned systems and applications, including troubleshooting, automation, maintenance, implementation, and improvement.
  • Be an expert resource and participate in network solutions.
  • Implement network solutions.
  • While being first contact and resolving support issues, look for common/repeating issues and develop solutions to prevent or reduce their occurrence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • VPN end user support.
  • Wired and wireless network end-user support.
  • Network layout and Visio documentation.
  • Assisting and installing network equipment.
  • Network performance and monitoring.
  • Maintain current and future IT knowledge with training.
Suggested Salary Range
$55,000 - $66,205

Physical Demands of Position

Mostly Sedentary work but when new equipment installs are required the physical demands could jump to Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
