Founded in 1881, Spelman College is a private four-year liberal arts college located in Atlanta, GA. The oldest historically Black college for women in the United States, Spelman is a member of the Atlanta University Center Consortium and Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education.
Position Description
The Department of Education invites applications for two candidates at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2023. We seek an outstanding teacher/scholar with expertise in urban education, equity and diverse populations/learners. The successful candidate must have a doctorate in Education Studies, Educational Psychology, Educational Leadership or a related field. The candidate should be able to teach courses in two or more of the following areas: advocacy in urban schools, African American education, teaching and learning, or a related education discipline. The preferred candidate will have experience in interdisciplinary collaboration and evidence the ability to conduct scholarly activity at the Assistant/Associate Professor level. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to working with women and underrepresented minority students through teaching, mentoring, and research are especially encouraged to apply.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. Education Studies, Educational Psychology, Educational Leadership
or related field. ABD candidates may be considered only if they will have their degree conferred no later than August 2023.
Preferred Qualifications:
Specialization in Urban Education, three (3) or more years of P-12 teaching experience and knowledge of teacher preparation accreditation standards.
