The technical services librarian is a tenure-track, full-time, twelve-month academic faculty librarian reporting to the director of libraries. This position works closely with the discovery services librarian and other coordinators in the library. They will contribute to the cataloging, promotion and assessment of the library’s digital and print collections. Major Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate departmental activities and provide leadership in setting goals and priorities. Responsible for overall operational efficiency of the Technical Services department.
- Work in coordination with SUNY Library Services on relevant initiatives.
- Supervises the Technical Services staff who work with the preservation, acquisitions and maintenance of the collection.
- Coordinate collection development, working with librarians and faculty to build both the physical and electronic collections.
- Works closely with the discovery services librarian and director of libraries in regards to ordering and receiving print and electronic content within the library’s materials budget
- Participates in the library instruction program and serves as a liaison to one or more academic departments.
- Performs original and copy cataloging for all physical and digital formats using national systems and standards.
- Maintains knowledge of current trends in acquisitions, collections and electronic resource management.
- Provides reference services at a desk, via technology, and by appointment. May work evenings and weekends as appropriate
Reports to the director of libraries. Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in information and/or library science from an ALA -accredited school or an ALA - approved foreign equivalent
- Recent experience in technical services in an academic library
- Supervisory or administrative experience.
- Experience with or knowledge of acquisitions, license negotiations, and cataloging/meta data.
- Evidence of or demonstrated knowledge of current trends and new developments in technical services and digital library initiatives.
- Experience working with institutional repository (Digital Commons, Dspace,etc)
- Familiarity with library systems and other library software (Alma/Primo, SpringShare, Connexions)
