The Art Department at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position in Painting and Drawing, beginning fall 2023. Candidates should be committed to pursuing excellence in teaching that promotes an inclusive learning environment. The successful candidate will teach all levels of the painting and drawing curricula and participate in the rotation of the senior capstone courses for B.F.A. and B.A. students. Opportunities to develop special topics courses or to teach the digital art foundations course and the mixed-media course (“Art Fusion”) also exist. The candidate will maintain and manage two painting studio classroom spaces, work collaboratively with colleagues in a small department, and mentor students earning the B.F.A. or B.A. degree in art.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • MFA in the visual/fine arts. Concentration in painting or related focus At least three years of college teaching experience An active exhibition record Evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, including evidence of creating inclusive learning environments for students from diverse and/or marginalized backgrounds.

Job Duties:

 

  • Teach 4 courses per semester, including all levels of painting and drawing and, on a rotating basis, the senior capstone courses for the B.F.A. and B.A. students. Maintain the two painting studio classroom spaces. Provide curriculum and career advising and mentoring to students earning the B.F.A. or B.A. degree in art. Maintain an active record of creative endeavors, including a regular exhibition schedule of competitive, juried shows. Support the department, university, and discipline through service and other forms of academic citizenship.
