Research Associate II, Ettensohn Lab

The Mellon College of Science (MCS) is home to four departments and many programs and research centers that cross disciplines. We approach scientific problems from fresh angles using creative interdisciplinary approaches while drawing on our departmental strengths in the core sciences. MCS faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized for their research in various fields, including polymer science, cosmology, mathematical finance, and molecular and cellular biology.

The Department of Biological Sciences is seeking a full time Research Associate II to carry out molecular biological laboratory experiments under the general supervision of the PI, Dr. Charles Ettensohn (https://www.bio.cmu.edu/labs/ettensohn/). The candidate will be responsible for providing technical and administrative support for the lab. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. Opportunities for independent projects are available depending on interest and experience.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Designing experiments and protocols.
  • Performing research following protocols and procedures.
  • Identifying problems and obstacles to progress; developing strategies to solve problems.
  • Researching and documenting information by compiling and maintaining accurate and detailed records.
  • Overseeing and managing lab maintenance, including compliance with chemical and lab safety regulations.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, genetics, genomics
  • 3-5 years’ experience in molecular biological methods.
  • Strong oral and communications skills required.
