Position Summary

The School of Nursing is part of the SDSU College of Health and Human Services. It is one of five schools, the School of Nursing, the Graduate School of Public Health, the School of Social Work, the School of Exercise and Nutrition, and the School of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. The School of Nursing has both undergraduate and graduate degree programs, and trains future nurses in conjunction with a wide variety of community health care agencies who provide student placement for educational experiences and training purposes.

The Instructional Support Technician in the School of Nursing is responsible for oversight of the various SON laboratories used to educate undergraduate and graduate nursing students. The Instructional Support Technician will work closely with the Director, Associate Director and the Simulation and Skills Lab faculty to create and foster a positive, effective, hands-on learning environment. Other responsibilities include the assessment and evaluation of equipment, order replacement supplies and materials, assist in staffing laboratory needs using work/study students and other staff as available, conduct audits, and manage multiple lab calendars. The Instructional Support Technician will also ensure optimal functioning of AV and simulation technology (ie. Learning Space and CAE manikins), assist with standardized patient program, and conduct inventory assessments periodically to maintain supplies necessary for laboratory operations.

The Instructional Support Technician will also work closely with the school's Administrative Support Coordinator II to make sound evaluations and decisions regarding purchasing necessary supplies and equipment that are within the school's budget. The Instructional Support Technician will provide advice and expertise in the evaluation, purchase, upgrades, and maintenance of resources and will ensure proper maintenance and support of lab and classroom materials and equipment. The Instructional Support Technician will also maintain a resource library of current textbooks, DVD's and other media needed for courses in the School of Nursing, and will advise faculty on these resources, and their availability. The Instructional Support Technician will also support and provide backup to the School of Nursing office staff and maintain/organize the School of Nursing databases.

Full-time, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

This position is physically located at the SDSU Main Campus in San Diego.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to two years of experience providing instructional support services for a unit or discipline, acting as a student assistant, or in producing materials or supplies related to the discipline.

OR

Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

OR

Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials,supplies, or equipment and in a related discipline may be substituted for the experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an academic environment.

  • Experience ordering, maintaining and/or managing medical and healthcare related supplies and equipment.

  • Familiarity with standard healthcare supplies and equipment.

  • Experience as a licensed medical assistant, CNA, LVN, or corpsman/clinician.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,100 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,565 - $6,187 per month.

SDSU Vaccine Policy

In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-shot vaccine or two weeks after the first dose of a single-shot vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.

The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.
