Position Focus:
Reporting to the Vice Provost for Faculty Development and Diversity, the Assistant Provost for Faculty Development and Diversity will support the Vice Provost's initiatives to diversify the faculty and enhance faculty career success.

More specifically, responsibilities include: Faculty diversity: DEI and Belonging - manage reviews of academic unit action plans in support of Academic Units and Vice Provost. DEI and Belonging - training and consultation. Programming and community building: create new programs to build a sense of community among faculty from diverse backgrounds with the goal of making Yale more successful in recruiting and retaining underrepresented faculty. Such initiatives include developing faculty affinity groups, liaising with DEIB-focused institutes and centers, and organizing academic DEIB leaders. HBCU engagement: support the President's and Trustees' goals for engagement with HBCUs by implementing the Vice Provost's plan for faculty engagement with HBCUs and other institutions serving underrepresented populations.

Faculty Development: With oversight from the Associate Provost and in collaboration with Schools and Chairs: Faculty development programs: organize New Faculty Orientation, cohort-building events, and mentorship programs. Organize programs hosted by external consortia including workshops and faculty success programs. Faculty appointments: support the faculty search process for professional schools, and assist in managing faculty tenure and promotion reviews for professional schools.

*Three-year term position with reappointment upon review.

Essential Duties:
1. Oversees academic initiatives in support of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB). 2. Proposes and implements plans for enhancing faculty diversity and faculty DEIB. 3. Acts as liaison between the Provost's Office and academic units to advance DEIB efforts.4. Proposes, develops, and implements workshops and programs to advance faculty DEIB. 5. Oversees faculty development programs including New Faculty Orientation, cohort-building events, and mentorship programs. 6. Supports the development, implementation, interpretation, oversight, and communication of academic policies, information, and statistics. Develops mechanisms to analyze and report this information. 7. Assists with long-range planning for the advancement of both existing and new DEIB initiatives at the University. 8. Drafts agendas, letters, announcements, memos, and other documents on behalf of the Vice Provost. 9. Maintains current knowledge and develops new expertise on DEIB and faculty development. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
Advanced degree in a related field. Academic and/or administrative experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Expertise in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Demonstrated ability to organize complex events for diverse audiences. Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with a diverse group of constituents.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Demonstrated success in working collaboratively to develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies focused on building a diverse faculty. Demonstrated success in partnering with chairs, deans, and other academic leaders to develop and implement diversity action plans.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Strong oral and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail. High level of proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and web-based tools.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex processes and projects.


Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in an academic area. Five years prof. experience related to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging in an academic environment. Demonstrated experience administering programs/implementing plans. High-level experience in an academic or research institution; direct interaction with faculty and academic leaders (chairs, deans, provosts).
