Job Summary
Auburn University Risk Management and Safety is searching for a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and environmentally passionate candidate for the position of Program Manager, Environmental Health and Safety ( EHS ).
The Department of Risk Management and Safety protects the people, the environment, property, financial and other resources, in support of Auburn University’s teaching, research, outreach and student services. A successful candidate will have a drive to make their community and the future of Auburn University safer, cleaner, and inclusive. Our team of dedicated, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic safety professionals will work collaboratively with the Program Manager and use the Program Manager’s knowledge and expertise to meet environmental compliance responsibilities and provide consultation with others on campus to find unique solutions to uncommon problems at Auburn University.
The Program Manager will actively advance the health and safety of the Auburn University community and implement a program responsible for chemical, biological, and pathological waste management, stormwater management, environmental compliance management, hazardous spill response, and dangerous goods shipping. The Program Manager will work under the direction of the Associate Director of Risk Management & Safety and will manage the University’s EHS programs and policies to advance health and safety of the university community necessary to achieve university-wide compliance with local, State, and Federal codes and environmental regulations.

Essential Functions
- Establishes and implements strategic direction for the EHS program and works collaboratively with other departmental functional areas and university operations to set and attain goals.
- Manages the development and implementation of EHS program including project management, oversight of contractors, regulatory reporting, and budget management.
- Develops and implements proactive EHS inspection and training programs to address the needs of the university and to ensure conformance with local, State, Federal, and university requirements and/or policies and procedures.
- Advises university faculty and staff regarding EHS responsibilities relative to their work and offers recommended solutions to ensure regulatory compliance while also assisting the research mission of the university to be met
- Institutes monitoring, corrective and preventative action programs relative to EHS to evaluate conformance with local, State, and Federal as well as university requirements and/or policies and procedures.
- Serves as a technical EHS expert expected to provide regulatory interpretation, applicability, and technical advice to the university.
- Supervises and directs the activities and development of a team of environmental technicians and specialists.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Field of Study
Degree in Environmental Science, Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Biological Sciences, Engineering, Chemistry or a related field.
