Department Description:  

The Office of the University Registrar (OUR) serves several key duties as set from the Faculty Code of University Government:

1) OUR serves as the keeper of the academic records of all students registered in the University and issues official transcripts and reports of such records; 2) conducts the registration of all students in the University; 3) prepares and publishes the class and examination schedules; and 4) administers the faculty regulations relating to the removal of academic deficiencies incurred in this University and to compliance with probation and readmission requirements.

To fulfill these duties the office has following core service areas for and on behalf of the university community, including students, alumni, administration, faculty, staff, and other constituents.

Position Description:  

This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks innovative candidates for the position of Assistant Registrar for Curriculum, Publications, and Study Abroad. This position oversees the staff and administrative systems that support the University’s curriculum, publications, and study abroad credit, which are University-wide functions that impact the academic progress of undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students. This includes supervising employees and overseeing system functionality, configuration, and documentation, and business process changes. This position provides oversight of the academic structure, catalog production, commencement publications, and study abroad processes, including supervision of staff responsible for these functions. The position also serves as a resource to the University community related to these areas in PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and CourseLeaf Curricular Management and Catalog Management software. This position reports directly to the Associate University Registrar for Infrastructure Operations.

The Assistant Registrar oversees all curriculum processes within the Office of the University Registrar. These processes ensure the This includes oversight of academic structure updates in PeopleSoft, management of the curriculum related interfaces, course and curriculum approval workflows, the implementation of new curriculum, catalog updates, degree audit curriculum updates and adjustments, vendor management, and systems access to curriculum related data. These curriculum processes are critical to managing University-wide degree and accreditation requirements. Given the impact that the curriculum has on students’ academic record and progress toward degree, this position is essential, and it will contribute to the University’s focus on student success.

The Assistant Registrar is also responsible for leading publication processes in the office. This includes documenting processes, coordinating joint efforts to produce the University Catalog and Commencement publications, managing vendors, and working with campus partners to improve the services available to campus users. This position is also responsible for leading Study Abroad credit processes to ensure that academic credit is awarded to students appropriately. This includes documenting the processes and coordinating with Study Abroad staff.

The Assistant Registrar serves as a primary custodian of the student academic record and oversees the accurate, application of university, state and federal regulations related to this. In addition, this position is responsible for the oversight of data collection and preparation of reports related to the functions the position oversees.

The Assistant Registrar is expected to perform all duties in compliance with FERPA and all applicable university student record, data privacy, and data security policies. This position will provide consultation to the Assistant Provost and University Registrar on both short-term and long-term planning for the office related to records and curriculum management and make recommendations for how to best allocate and prioritize responsibilities to advance the goals of the office.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:  

The position requires strong supervisory and administrative skills; planning and evaluation skills; substantial knowledge and understanding of computer systems and software; problem-solving and analytical skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; knowledge of higher education regulatory compliance.

This position must demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to learn new technologies to support the University.

Education Requirements:  

Preferred Qualifications:  

* Experience working in higher education using PeopleSoft Campus Solutions and CourseLeaf.
* Experience with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint.

Required Licenses/Certifications:  

Qualifications and Experience:  

Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience in the area of assignment, of which at least one is supervisory or in a lead-worker capacity; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
