Berry College invites applications for an innovative leader to serve as Dean of the Charter School of Education and Human Sciences, which includes the departments of Kinesiology, Psychology, and Teacher Education, as well as the Division of Nursing.

The Charter School has long offered an innovative curriculum in the areas of teacher education and human development, supported by a K-8 laboratory school on campus and two early learning centers. In more recent years, the School has also developed a thriving program in Applied Behavior Analysis. The School is now expanding in the area of health sciences, with growth expected in Nursing and a potential Physician Assistant graduate program.

Successful candidates will have a vision for strengthening the School's existing programs and bringing new programs to fruition in the health sciences, recognizing that continued growth could lead to reorganization of the School in coming years.

Berry College is committed to increasing the diversity of our faculty and staff. We welcome applications from candidates committed to fostering greater diversity and inclusion across the campus and specifically in the Charter School. The Dean is expected to serve as a model and mentor to all Charter faculty as an exemplary teacher and scholar.

The Charter School boasts a well-established record of community engagement, including internships, certifications, Academic Community Engagement (ACE) courses, and flourishing partnerships with the medical community and other institutions. Students are actively involved on campus in research and work opportunities that support their academic interests.

Job Responsibilities

The Dean serves as the chief academic, administrative, and budgetary officer of the Charter School and reports directly to the College's Provost. The Charter Dean:

  • Leads and collaborates in strategic planning for Charter programs.
  • Works with the School's faculty, College administration, the deans of other Schools, and external partners to promote and initiate improvements to the School's teaching/research capabilities, undergraduate and graduate curriculum, and interdisciplinary programs.
  • Supervises all Charter faculty, Department Chairs, Directors, Coordinators, and administrative staff.
  • Recommends hiring, reappointment, promotion and tenure, and other personnel actions as necessary.
  • Provides oversight and assistance during the hiring process of high-quality and diverse faculty and staff.
  • Promotes scholarly research activities of faculty and faculty-student collaborations.
  • Assists students and faculty with requests, exceptions, complaints, and the resolution of grievances.
  • Serves as an effective communicator and liaison to both internal and external constituencies, including fund-raising activities in conjunction with the Advancement office.
  • Recommends a budget to the Provost, and oversees the allocation and dispensation of School funds.
  • Teaches one course each year in their discipline.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Qualifications

Earned doctorate by an accredited institution in one of the disciplines represented by the Charter School with sufficient academic credentials to merit appointment to the rank of full professor.
