LSSC Career Advisor builds supportive and personalized relationships with students and provide opportunities for students to stay connected to our College community. The Career Advisor provides quality advising and has responsibility for career advising services that address the needs of all students. The Career Advisor utilizes intentional developmental advising methods focused on student success, skill development and life-long learning while providing career advising to LSSC students and alumni. This position requires a flexible work schedule, including days, evenings, and occasional weekends.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

1. Provides quality career advising services that address the needs of all students. Utilizes intentional developmental advising methods focused on student success, skill development and life-long learning while providing career advising to LSSC students and alumni in the areas of career and major exploration, job search strategies, job search, resume and cover letter critiques, job market trends, professional networking, college/university transfer, and graduate/ professional school. Serves as internship and experiential learning coordinator. Serves as the primary Career Advisor at the South Lake Campus. Serves as lead BAS Career Advisor. Holds advising hours and/or attends events at Sumter Center for daytime students once per week and on other campuses on an as needed basis.

2. Conducts career-related workshops and presentations as part of in-class faculty requests and campus-wide events. Creates presentation content and materials. Coordinates career-related events and programming to support specific student population needs. Manages employer relations including coordinating on-campus recruitment visits, online job postings, internships and experiential learning, and career events. Conducts employer outreach initiatives. Responsible for marketing initiatives including marketing materials, promoting events and social media outreach efforts. Tracks and maintains Career Development Services data including student advising notes, presentation/event attendance, presentation survey administration and results, employer outreach efforts, and program statistics. Researches and stays up-to-date on current career services and employment trends in order to identify and create innovative programming and resources.

3. Provides support and referrals for student development services; provides general student services and support for faculty and staff.

Qualifications

Education Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in higher education, student personnel services, student affairs administration, counseling or related field.

Education Preferred: Master degree from an accredited institution.

Experience Required: Minimum three (3) years’ experience in an educational or career training setting required or experience in a business setting performing placement, employment training, human resources recruitment, or related function. Graduate student experience through internships and/or student assistant work in student affairs/services may be substituted upon approval by the VPESA . Demonstrated experience in working with diverse postulations.

Experience Preferred: Experience in conducting educational and training workshop/presentations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally, in writing and through the use of appropriate technology
  • Ability to maintain good working relations with students, faculty, staff and members of the community
  • Ability to work on a variety of assignments simultaneously
  • Demonstrate good organizational skills and leadership ability
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Outlook and MS Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task, with attention to details and with a high level of accuracy
