The Department of Philosophy at Salve Regina University seeks a qualified and highly motivated instructor to teach in the capacity of assistant professor beginning in the 2023-24 academic year. This is a tenure track position with a 4-3 teaching load. In line with Salve Regina's commitment to the Catholic intellectual tradition and Mercy mission, interested applicants should be able to contribute (in both teaching and scholarship) to one or more of the five Mercy Critical Concerns: Nonviolence, Earth, Racism, Women, and Immigration. Accordingly, priority will be given to candidates who possess a strong competence in areas such as philosophy of race, feminist philosophy and/or the philosophy of gender, peace and justice studies, or environmental philosophy. More generally, teaching will include regular contributions to the university's core curriculum, particularly introductory ethics and applied ethics courses, wherein emphasis is placed on critical thinking and ethical reasoning. The ability to teach within one or more areas of the history of philosophy within the major is also welcome.


Requirements:
  • A PhD in Philosophy from an accredited institution; teaching experience preferred.
  • A track record of scholarly production and a research agenda within the discipline.
  • Commitment to service on the departmental and university level.
