Bertram and Gladys Aaron Professorship in Jewish Studies

The Department of Philosophy and Religion at Christopher Newport University invites applications for the Bertram and Gladys Aaron Professorship of Jewish Studies, effective August 2023. The successful candidate for this endowed position must present a record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service that warrants an appointment with tenure at the rank of associate or full professor. A doctorate or equivalent in Religion or a closely related field is required.

Christopher Newport values effective teaching inspired by sound scholarship. The University seeks a passionate and engaged teacher and productive scholar who will lead the department’s efforts in broadening its course offerings in Jewish Studies, and will serve as a scholarly resource for the University’s related programs and organizations. The Aaron Professor will also assume the role of academic liaison to the vibrant and active Jewish community of the Virginia peninsula.

The Department of Philosophy and Religion consists of 12 full-time faculty, each a dynamic teacher-scholar who is committed to expanding and enhancing the awareness of thought traditions across the centuries and around the world. The department is distinctive for its integration of the study of Philosophy and Religion, preparing students for admittance to top graduate programs across the country.
