About the Opportunity

Position Description: The Life Sciences and Engineering Department at The Roux Institute is seeking hourly support for grant funded project leveraging the Microsoft HoloLens Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality (AR/VR) platform for Biotechnology applications. These applications will be used to provide rural Maine high school students access to Biotechnology.

The candidate will be responsible for facilitating in the development of AR/VR technology as it relates to Biotechnology applications and aligns with Maine's high school lessons in Science and Engineering standards. The candidate will work alongside the team to assist in curriculum development and most importantly, integrate AR/VR technology in the curriculum. The goal of this project is to develop an AR/VR environment for high school students to visualize and interact with in the classroom.

Position Requirements: Undergraduate student is preferred and enrolled in a college or university in the State of Maine. Be able to commit 1 to 3 hours a week for at least 4 months.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Candidate should possess strong personal motivation, independence, exhibit initiative and creativity, display strong written and communication skills, and effective problem-solving capabilities.
  • Should be excited to teach and promote equitable opportunities for all Mainers in the Biotechnology industry
  • Display independence and motivation to learn Unity, Unreal, and Vuforia to create AR/VR experiences and develop projects to promote the goal of this project and grow their skills.
