Position Summary

The Undergraduate Student Affairs Director for the School of Business ( SOBU ) is a member of the School’s administrative leadership team and will assist in setting the direction of the School and implementing its programs in order to achieve the School’s mission.

Essential Job Functions of Position

The Director is expected to interact with the School’s faculty through the School’s governance process (committees/taskforces) and to work with the School’s program directors as needed.

Academic Advising
Coordinates schedules, meets with and advises Business students throughout their academic careers to help them maximize their experience as students. Assist and provides training for faculty members in their advising duties.

Recruitment
In coordination with the Washburn University Admissions Office, plans, implements and performs activities to recruit traditional, transfer, and non-traditional students for enrollment in the School according to the School’s goals and priorities.


Scholarship Coordination
Allocates scholarship awards to new freshmen, transfer and continuing Business students and monitors the award process.

Retention
Works closely with Washburn Center for Student Success to coordinate all activities aimed at improving student retention for School undergraduate students.

New Student Orientation
Plans and implements New Student Orientation programs for potential business students.

Performs additional job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.

Non-Essential Job Functions of Position

Education and Experience

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree. Five years of professional experience in advising or student affairs. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred:
Master’s Degree in Business or a related field. Experience in a university and/or advising setting.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Must be an effective communicator with demonstrated public speaking skills.
Experience establishing relationships and partnerships with internal and external constituencies (e.g., alumni, community and business organizations) and participating in business and community organizations
Proven ability to work independently exercising initiative, good judgement and innovation
Proven experience working in a team-oriented office environment and ability to work with culturally, ethnically, and socially diverse students, staff, faculty, and other constituencies.

Preferred:
Proficiency with the Banner administrative system and EAB Navigate. Web-content management skills, social media expertise, experience working with international students and exchange programs.

Responsible for traveling to offsite locations. (Frequency is periodical to rarely.)
