THE COLLEGE: CSUEB’s College of Business and Economics offers 6 degree programs (BS in Business Administration, MBA, BS and MS in Economics, MS in Accountancy, and MS in Business Analytics) spanning 4 departments: Accounting and Finance, Economics, Management, Marketing and Entrepreneurship. The College’s distinguished faculty represents a multinational, multicultural diverse group providing a wealth of wide-range of global experiences and expertise in various fields. The College is AACSB accredited since 1973 and has been nationally ranked by the Princeton Review (2014).

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Management is staffed by more than 30 full-time, tenure-track faculty organized into the following interest groups: Information Technology Management (ITM), Operations & Supply Chain Management (OSCM), Human Resources Management, and Strategy & International Business. The MS in Business Analytics degree program is housed in the Department of Management, taught by ITM and OSCM faculty. Benefiting from our proximity to Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area, MSBA graduates have been hired by many renowned high-tech companies, including but not limited to Apple, Amazon, Adobe, Facebook, Google, Uber, and Zoom. The College and the Department plan to introduce a Business/Data Analytics major or concentration at the undergraduate level. The position is for Business/Data Analytics, with possibility of teaching in OSCM. The new hire will be assigned to the OSCM group.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION: We seek an individual who has strong research and teaching interests and expertise in the subject areas that are relevant to Business/Data Analytics and OSCM, including research and teaching in one or more of the following areas: data mining, machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence, text mining, social media analytics, optimization methods, and operations/supply chain analytics.

The successful applicant is expected to be an excellent teacher, a productive researcher, and a helpful colleague. Please note that teaching assignments at CSUEB can be at the Hayward and Concord campuses, in off-campus programs in Oakland and San Ramon, and online. The successful applicant should also possess a doctoral degree emphasizing advanced foundational discipline-based research. In addition to teaching and research, all faculty assist the department with administrative and/or committee work as well as campus-wide committee responsibilities. The policy and expectation of the California State University is that tenure-track faculty members will perform their duties within the state of California.

RANK AND SALARY: Full time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience, and the salary ranges can be found at: CSU Salary Schedule . Subject to budgetary authorization.

DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Fall Semester, 2023.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: (1) an earned doctoral degree in OSCM/ITM or related fields such as OR/OM or MIS, with focus on Business/Data Analytics and OSCM from internationally recognized AACSB accredited institutions, with degree in hand no later than the effective date of the appointment. If the doctoral degree is not from a business school, the applicant’s teaching and research must have strong business application and implication; (2) ability or experience in teaching, mentoring, research, or community service that has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence; (3) a demonstrated record of scholarly activities; (4) a demonstrated record or capability of teaching excellence in the designated areas; and (5) effective communication skills.

Desirable: (1) Business experience and versatility in teaching Business/Data Analytics and OSCM courses; (2) Equity-minded applicants who demonstrate understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and racial/ethnic backgrounds present in our student body.
