ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF EDUCATION, SPECIALIZING in SPECIAL EDUCATION

The Dr. Jo Watts Williams School of Education at Elon University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Education position specializing in special education, beginning August 2023. 

Elon University’s Dr. Jo Watts Williams School of Education is committed to supporting the development of special education teachers grounded in equity and inclusion. We seek candidates with a commitment to working with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds. Candidates contributing to inclusive excellence are encouraged to identify their experiences and commitments in their cover letter. 

The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate teacher preparation programs and Elon’s General Studies (CORE) Curriculum, with possible teaching opportunities in the master’s in education program. Responsibilities include teaching special education and related courses, as well as collaborating with public school partners for practicum and student teacher supervision. Additional responsibilities include student advising and undergraduate research mentorship, and service to the department, university, and profession. Candidates must demonstrate a record of, or potential for, scholarly activity, including professional publications and presentations. 

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Ed.D. (ABD considered with completion by starting date) with an emphasis in special education from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Successful experience as a special education teacher in PK- 12 schools.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, research, mentoring and/or advising that contributes to inclusive excellence.
  • Record of, or potential for, scholarly activities commensurate with rank.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successful experience teaching in undergraduate and/or graduate courses.
  • Experience teaching online courses and/or demonstrated competency using digital technologies.
  • Supervision of clinical field experiences in PK-12 schools.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with edTPA.
  • Expertise in literacy and language learning.
