Career Services Specialist (Student Services Professional 3 – MR11 )

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is looking for a Career Services Specialist to join the Decosimo Student Success Center in the Gary W. Rollins College of Business. The Career Services Specialist will support a wide range of career and professional development educational programs and serving as primary lecturer for a required seminar for students in the Rollins College of Business.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Success Seminar Class and Cocurricular Programs

Develops and delivers programs that coach students on career search strategies, personal branding, interview skills, self-promotion methods, and overall professional development, including the development and instruction of the required Junior level success seminar (BUS 3410) offered each semester and other for-credit courses; conceptualizes, directs, and delivers other cocurricular professional development programs and workshops such as networking events, resume workshops, and mock interviews.

Job Placement for Graduates

Assists graduates in finding employment within six months after graduation; serves as an advocate for students/graduates in the job search process; works with central career services to collect and disseminate job opportunities and internships to students and seeks ways to expand the opportunities made available to RCOB students locally, regionally, and nationally; develops, tracks, reports, and documents graduate employment, placement metrics, and success stories including the annual First Destination Survey; represents the RCOB at University and community events related to career services and job placement.

Career and Professional Development Coaching

Provides individual and small group career and professional development coaching to students and graduates in all aspects of their job search including job search strategies, personal marketing, interview skills and resume writing for preparedness in seeking internships and positions related to their areas of study.

Employer Relations

Works with Senior Manager to develop and maintain relationships with employers to solicit job and internship opportunities for RCOB students and graduates; actively and routinely seeks employer feedback on employer needs and industry trends.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:
  • Knowledge of career development theories and best practices
  • Knowledge of employer recruiting and placement processes
  • Computer proficiency
  • Interpersonal and emotional intelligence skills/customer service
  • Strong communication skills- verbal, written, phone and public speaking
  • Organizational and documentation skills
  • Event coordination skills
  • Collaborative and self-driven attitude

Minimum qualifications: Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and six years of relevant, progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree; event coordination in an educational setting or equivalent e xperience with professional or community organizations; and teaching experience on a college campus or similar experience are preferred.
