    Department Summary

    The Office of Development as part of University Advancement has a mission to maximize philanthropic impact at the University of Oregon. We do this by identifying, connecting, and engaging alumni and friends around the globe with their passions to advance the vision and priorities of the university.

    The Annual Philanthropy Program (APP) is focused on creating and encouraging robust philanthropic activity early in the donor pipeline. The program helps the UO identify the next generation of philanthropic leaders by bringing in new donors and ensuring that existing donors have a positive experience, so they are motivated to give consistently and move to the next level of giving. This innovative team leads the UO's efforts in implementing best practices in identifying, acquiring, retaining, and reactivating over 30,000 donors annually, and works to secure gifts under $25,000 through various traditional and emerging efforts. As a centralized fundraising program, Annual Philanthropy works closely with colleagues across campus to provide expertise and high-level strategic planning that promotes a healthy donor pipeline and ensures fundraising priorities are well represented to the broader UO community.
    Position Summary

    Reporting to the Director of Annual Philanthropy, the Assistant Director of Annual Philanthropy is primarily responsible for the oversight and management of a productive and successful Student Donor Experience Ambassador (SDXA) program, management of email marketing campaigns, administration of the crowdfunding platform, DuckFunder, and assisting in various other mass solicitation efforts to support the overarching goals of the Annual Philanthropy team.

    Working closely with the director and the associate director, this position participates in strategic planning sessions, incorporates emerging trends into current efforts, and effectively manages multiple ongoing projects. This position also works with campus partners in academics, arts, and athletics, to create comprehensive solicitation calendars and ensure UO branding is consistent and cohesive across all outreaches.

    This position works a flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings. This position may be eligible for hybrid or mostly remote work, with regular visits to the Eugene campus, and can be located in Eugene or Portland.
    Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
  • One year of experience in annual giving, development, marketing, communications, or related field.
    Professional Competencies

  • Knowledge of emerging trends in higher education fundraising.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to write solicitations.
  • Goal-oriented and able to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously under varying deadlines.
  • Demonstrated understanding of data segmentation, how to interpret result reporting and analytics, and the ability to utilize these to make strategic plans.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to motivate and mentor others.
  • Customer service experience working with the public in a professional manner.
  • Proficient computer skills and adept at learning new software.
  • Strong organizational and high attention to detail skills.
  • Ability to interact, communicate, and work effectively with individuals, recognizing and respecting the many and varied identities of each person.
  • Commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    Preferred Qualifications

  • Higher education fundraising experience, preferably in a call center or managing student experience officers/ambassadors.
  • Previous management, including hiring and training, of student employees.
  • Experience with Advance, iModules/Anthology, Scalefunder, RNL EverTrue, Salesloft, and/or Adobe Creative Suite.
