Applicants must have a J.D. from an ABA -accredited university and be licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. Position Summary
The University of Georgia School of Law invites applications to fill a full-time Clinical Faculty position directing its Corporate Counsel Externship. The successful candidate should be able to assume duties approximately by January 2022 to facilitate a semester of overlap with the current Director.

The Corporate Counsel Externship began in 2010 and is an integral component of the School of Law’s robust clinic program as well as its business law curriculum. The externship offers law students the opportunity to work in an in-house legal department on a part-time or full-time basis during the fall, spring, or summer semester.See https://www.law.uga.edu/corporate-counsel-externship for more information about the Corporate Counsel Externships. The Director of the Corporate Counsel Externship manages the externship program and has both supervisory and teaching responsibilities.

In the supervisory role, the Director recruits, maintains relationships with, provides support and resources for, and ensures quality supervision by supervising attorneys at corporate counsel placements. The Director also regularly advises and provides guidance to individual students about their externship experience. In addition, the Director oversees the application process for the externship each semester.

In the fall and spring, the Director teaches weekly seminars which focus on the role of the in-house counsel and ways to maximize an externship experience. These seminars are for first-time corporate counsel externs (Corporate Counsel Externship I), advanced corporate counsel externs (Corporate Counsel Externship II), and full-time corporate counsel externs through Atlanta Semester in Practice ( ASIP ). In the summer, the academic course component has historically been taught remotely.

Additionally, the Director is expected to teach 1 or 2 related courses during an academic year and/or coach or assist with the negotiation and transactional advocacy teams. Relevant courses could include Mergers & Acquisitions, Business Ethics, Corporate Finance, Securities Regulation, Securities Enforcement, Unincorporated Entities, Nonprofits, Corporate Governance, or similar courses in line with the School’s curricular needs.

Although management of the externship program and related teaching comprise the core duties of the position, the law school’s clinical promotional track also calls for engagement in (widely defined) scholarly activities, regional and national discourse relevant to this clinical practice area, and law school / university service.

The successful candidate will be hired into the law school’s clinical promotional track, at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor or Clinical Associate Professor. Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
Candidates for this position will have practiced in the area of business law, preferably for a minimum of five years, and preferably including experience as an in-house counsel. 1 or more years of experience in clinical legal education or other law teaching is a plus.
