College of Science & Mathematics

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Rowan University seeks to hire one or more tenure-track faculty in chemical biology or polymer chemistry to begin their appointment in September 2023. This search is part of a broader, multi-year faculty hiring initiative across the College of Science & Mathematics.

A Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or related fields is required; postdoctoral experience is expected. Preference will be given to candidates with a track record and/or potential to establish and sustain a strong research program. We anticipate hiring at the Assistant Professor level, but outstanding candidates may be considered at the Associate or Full Professor levels. The successful candidates are expected to develop and maintain an active, highly visible, extramurally funded research program with outstanding scholarship, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to the various service endeavors in the Department, College, and University. Opportunities for collaboration exist within the Department, the College of Science & Mathematics, as well as with Rowan’s two medical schools, a newly-approved School of Veterinary Medicine, the College of Engineering, and other colleges at the university.

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry offers high-quality programs including a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, an M. S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, a B.S. in Chemistry (ACS accredited), a B.A. in Chemistry, and a B.S. in Biochemistry (ASBMB accredited), along with several graduate certificates and combined advanced degree programs (B.S./M.S., B.S./M.D., B.S./D.O.). Faculty in the department have diverse expertise including drug synthesis and characterization, pharmacology, protein biochemistry, material synthesis and characterization. The ideal candidates will provide complementary and synergistic expertise to our research efforts and develop an independent, externally funded research program in the broad discipline of their expertise.

Complete applications will include:

  • Cover letter
  • Current detailed CV
  • Statement of research interests, including applicant’s future research goals
  • Statement of teaching philosophy that includes the candidate’s commitment to inclusive teaching and mentoring practices
  • Graduate transcripts (unofficial copies acceptable for initial review)
  • Names and contact information for at least three references; confidential letters will be requested if an application is moved forward

  • Review of applications will commence on October 10, 2022 and continue until suitable candidates have been identified. Applicants will need to submit the above materials via our online application system at https://jobs.rowan.edu/en-us/job/496794/tenuretrack-faculty-positions-open-rank-department-of-chemistry-biochemistry
