Position Summary
The Department of Bioengineering is seeking a postdoc to take a leadership role in research and management of a multi-university equity/STEM program building a pipeline to greater numbers of students from low-income backgrounds pursuing professional Masters degrees. The research focus is on multi-organizational, cross-cultural multi-team systems (MTS). Participating Masters programs are in STEM and engineering at several HBCUs and Rice University.
An ideal candidate is someone who seeks to utilize their graduate degree to pursue consulting, management, or administration and would be looking to leverage this position to develop their project management and professional skills to run large programs like this. Ideal candidates also include those with a vision for their future in academia, recognizing that this position would give them the management experience to run multi-institutional research projects in the future.
Job duties are split between program management and research aspects. Management aspects of the job include reporting, fund management and allocation to stakeholders, communication between stakeholders, institutions, and student cohorts, working with the PIs to administer the program, seeking and retaining scholars, and developing the cohorts. Research duties include developing and supporting the implementation of research instruments and protocols, data collection, data analysis, disseminating research results, assisting with supervising graduate and undergraduate researchers, helping prepare deliverables associated with external research support, working closely with external partners on the deployment of research instruments and training that are part of the project, and helping prepare proposals to solicit additional external research funding. This position requires taking a leadership role in research for a project that is focused on STEM graduate degrees and careers for students from low-income backgrounds. The research focus is on multi-organizational, cross-cultural multi-team systems (MTS).

Essential Functions
- Conduct and assist research focused on multi-team systems and quantifying outcomes for STEM graduate students from low-income backgrounds
- Perform quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, including instrument/protocol development
- Use principles of universal design for learning (UDL) to assure data collection and documentation of results are accessible to a broad range of end users
- Meet regularly with and coordinate PI team and collaborators across multiple institutions
- Assist in the recruitment, application processing, and development of student cohorts in Masters programs across multiple universities
- Administer and manage grant funds and providing reporting on major grant activities
- Provides academic services (i.e. teaching classes) to the department as required
- Performs all other duties as assigned
- Ph.D. or other doctoral degree in psychology, sociology, engineering education, or other discipline-based STEM educational research

- Demonstrated ability to lead and/or work collaboratively in teams comprised of individuals of diverse backgrounds, skills, and perspectives
- Research related to team science, cultural competence, equity in STEM education and careers, or related areas is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of education research areas focused on industrial/organizational behavior
- Experience with applying principles of universal design for learning, user-centered design, and in preparing Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols
