POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
VIRGINIA HIGHLANDS COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Position:  Biology-Anatomy & Physiology Faculty
Position Number:  296F0056

The faculty, staff, and stakeholders of Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC) enjoy the privilege of serving the individuals of the commonwealth who reside in Washington County, western Smyth County, and the city of Bristol, VA. One of 23 institutions in the Virginia Community College System (VCCS), VHCC is a beacon for educational opportunities in view of Mt. Rogers and Whitetop Mountain at Exit 14 on Interstate 81 in Abingdon, VA. With a robust 55-year heritage, VHCC serves students in the service region through a Workforce Development Division, a Professional and Technical Studies Division, an Arts and Sciences Division, and a Nursing Division. VHCC awards credentials and continuing education courses as well as Associate of Applied Science degrees, Associate of Arts and Sciences degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates.

Instrumental to the overall culture of the college and the surrounding community is a long-standing tradition that places great value on the sciences. At the college’s founding, visionary leaders at VHCC established institutional and academic priorities that have kept the college positioned to serve students who are passionate about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields of study. In addition to serving students who earn an associate degree before transferring to purse degrees in pre-med, pre-pharmacy, pre-medical laboratory science, exercise science, and other health related bachelor’s degrees, VHCC is fortunate to have multiple strong allied health programs that consistently produce graduates ready to secure registered nurse, practical nurse, medical assistant, nurse aide, and radiography licenses. This colleague will teach biology courses as necessary in response to enrollment demands to include biology/A&P courses in a combination of seated and virtual delivery methods each semester.
