Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Student Life, the Associate Director serves as a member of the Student Life Leadership Team and is responsible for fostering student engagement and leadership through the development of innovative programs and events for students. The Associate Director will provide oversight for numerous functional areas within the Office of Student Life and serves as a liaison between internal and external constituencies involved with department services, programs, and activities.
Essential Functions:
• Advise the Student Activities Council which provides annual programming for the undergraduate student body and coordinates opportunities for cross-collaboration
Co-advise the Undergraduate Student Senate and provide overall management of the 150+ recognized student organizations, which includes developing and overseeing policies and procedures in conjunction with the Student Senate.
• Design and facilitate leadership development programs for the Lisa A Pierce Center for
Leadership, housed within the Office of Student Life, including curriculum development, facilitator selection and training, and annual assessment that addresses the needs of students.
• Supervise a Graduate Assistant for large-scale campus-wide programs designed to enhance the quality of campus life including Welcome Weeks, Involvement Fairs, Homecoming, Concert, Winter Celebration, Constitution Day, and Student Appreciation Week.
• Serve as Chair/Co-Chair of campus-wide programming committees including Homecoming and Highlander Awards
• Oversee the development and training for Highlander Hub, NJIT's online student engagement platform that captures undergraduate student involvement, leadership, and service.
• Assist in major campus activities such as New Student Orientations, Admission Open Houses, Homecoming/Family Day, and other large-scale engagements.
• Assist the Director in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the department including oversight of functional areas within the Office of Student Life
• Develop metrics to assess programs and initiatives
• Budgetary oversight for the areas of Leadership and Annual Programming.
• Successful advertising and communication through websites, promotional materials, and social media.
Additional Functions:
• Crisis Response - Provide University support in critical situations arising at sponsored activities
• Attend Major University Events including Open House, Commencement, and Convocation
• Membership on Division and University Committees
• Facilitate First-Year Seminar for new students
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Prerequisite Qualifications:
• Minimum five (5) years of successful work experience in a professional position within a Student Activities/Student Life department with a key focus on working with student clubs and organizations, student programming, and advising.
• A Master's degree in Higher Education Administration or related field
• Experience working with college students in a co-curricular environment
• Strong written and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse groups including students, faculty, and administrators.
• At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
