Job Details

Central State University (CSU) seeks applications and nominations for the position of Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. CSU is interested in highly qualified candidates with proven success in managing large scale athletic programs, educational and athletic activities, athletic and corporate partnerships, and limited fundraising activities. The position reports to the President and will remain open until filled.

Job Summary: 

The Director of Intercollegiate Athletics has responsibility for providing organizational leadership and guidance for all athletic team activities; support for community and booster activities; responsible for providing oversight to staff; adherence to NCAA compliance regulations and representation of the University on Conference committees and or boards that directly impact Central State University’s athletics. The Director reports to the President. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, mentors, supervises, and evaluates all coaches and support staff
  • Develops and implements strategies to recruit and retain student athletes
  • Establishes and enforces best strategies for maintaining student-athlete academic success
  • Manages and maintains Athletic Scholarship processing
  • Maintains and enforces an environment that prioritizes sportsmanship and civility
  • Manages the planning and budgeting for the Athletics Department
  • Manages and enforces compliance with the policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of the NCAA, SIAC, TITLE IX. Familiarizes and complies with the policies of the University
  • Collaborates with Public Relations to market and promote the University and its athletic programs
  • Coordinates fundraising activities with Institutional Advancement and Development
  • Works closely with administrators, faculty and students establishing and maintaining active participation with athletic academic committees
  • Represents the University at professional meetings and with external constituencies

Minimum Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge and understanding of athletic issues as they relate to the administration of University athletic programs
  • Strong commitment to both men’s and women’s athletic programs
  • Demonstrated track record in personnel management, budgeting, and planning
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans
  • Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written expression
  • Strong commitment to academic excellence
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to supporting TITLE IX activities

A Master’s degree is required. A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in an athletic-related administrative position is required.
