The Department of Health Outcomes Research and Policy at Auburn University’s Harrison College of Pharmacy invites applications for a non-tenure track, full-time 12-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Research Professor or Associate Research Professor, with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence in healthcare. The successful candidate must have research expertise and demonstrated experience in data sciences and/or machine learning, with the capacity to apply that expertise to pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacoeconomics, health services research, and clinical decision-making domains. The successful candidate’s record should reflect experience with large and complex data sets in health. Appointment as Associate Research Professor requires demonstrated sustained extramural grant support, publications, and teaching proficiency consistent with appointment to the associate rank at a research-intensive university.
The primary research goal of the Department is to improve medication-related outcomes through practice and population-based research. Applicants should have expertise in related or complementary disciplines to work collaboratively with other faculty in the Department, with other Departments in the Harrison College of Pharmacy, and across Auburn University. The Harrison College of Pharmacy offers opportunities for interdisciplinary population-based research in drug safety and precision medicine. For example, there is a college-wide initiative focusing on interdisciplinary pharmacogenomics research, encompassing a range of preclinical and clinical discovery research all the way to applied clinical pharmacogenomics and evaluation.
This position is created as part of the University-wide initiative to form a core expertise in artificial intelligence. Faculty hired under this initiative will work collaboratively with faculty across the University. The position will be funded for the first 2 years and may be department funded thereafter, pending availability of funding.
Essential Functions
The Assistant/Associate Research Professor will:
- Develop and/or maintain an extramurally funded research program from public and/or private sources;
- Be involved in collaborative research programs with faculty across campus, including the Colleges of Nursing, Veterinary Medicine, Human Sciences, Engineering, College of Liberal Arts, and the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicines ( VCOM );
- Demonstrate a high level of scholarly activity as evidenced by quality publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and active participation in professional societies; and
- Contribute to Department, College, and University service activities.
- Must have research expertise and demonstrated experience in data sciences and machine learning, with the capacity to apply that expertise to pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacoeconomics, health services research, and clinical decision-making domains.
- Completed a doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution in a pharmaceutical discipline, computer science, engineering, medicine, public health, biostatistics, or bioinformatics-related discipline at the time of employment.
- Eligibility for a non-tenure track, faculty appointment at Auburn University at the rank of Assistant or Associate Research Professor. Excellent written and interpersonal skills.
- Successful candidates must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.

This is a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure track faculty position on-site position located at the Harrison College of Pharmacy in Auburn, Alabama.
