The Opportunity:

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott, Arizona campus has openings available for an Avionics Maintenance Technician to join our Team supporting the Fleet Aircraft Maintenance Department. Embry-Riddle's Prescott Campus is respected worldwide for cutting-edge instruction and training for tomorrow’s aviation, aerospace, security and intelligence leaders. Prescott is a mile-high city and its climate reflects seasonable weather excellent for flying. Daytime averages are 80°F in the summer and 45°F in the winter. At 5,000 ft. above sea level, it boasts a mild climate, clean air, pristine wilderness areas, and nearby national forests. The university is a small, private, residential university in the mountains of Arizona with approximately 3,500 students. Staff/faculty/student interaction is highly valued and is a central theme of our campus. It is located 100 miles north of Phoenix and 120 miles south of the Grand Canyon.

Job Summary:

The Avionics Maintenance Technician performs authorized maintenance, preventive maintenance, rebuilding, and alterations and returns to service University aircraft in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations, manufacturers’ requirements, and the highest quality industry standards. Other duties may be assigned as required.

Experience with Garmin G1000 Avionics Systems is required.

Job Description:
  • Perform avionics systems and component inspections, test, troubleshooting, adjustment, or repairs of equipment such as instruments, radio, navigation, electrical and electronic components, and autopilot control systems in our fleet of Cessna 172s and Diamond DA42NG aircraft
  • Accomplish Scheduled Avionics inspections and quickly respond to unscheduled avionics maintenance requirements.
  • Perform work IAW with the requirements of the FAA-approved inspection program, FAA regulations pertaining to aircraft maintenance, airworthiness directives, advisory circular, manufacturers' service bulletins, and engineering orders/drawings, as required.
  • Complete all necessary entries in the appropriate maintenance forms, work orders, internal inspection forms, malfunction and defect reports, and aircraft logbooks.
  • Properly document all parts, appliances, and materials used in the maintenance of aircraft.
  • Report defective shop equipment or equipment requiring certification to the Shift Lead.
  • Support and assist the Shift Lead in the accomplishment of the overall maintenance effort.
  • Maintain a positive, professional image to our Students, Instructor Pilots, Flight Supervisors, and other University Departments.
  • The typical schedule is four, ten-hour shifts, and does include weekends and holidays.
  • Technicians are categorized and compensated within four Levels (1-4) of increasing responsibility that recognizes individual accomplishments, aviation background, technical skills, time & experience in the industry, and leadership abilities.
  • Applicant's Qualifications will determine the Level assigned.

  • 3 years or more experience with troubleshooting & repair of Garmin G1000 systems required, preferably in a fleet maintenance/repair station environment.

  • Cessna 172 & DA-42 experience desired

  • Read and comprehend instructions, write information, and complete simple forms.

  • High school (or GED) level ability in spelling, grammar, basic composition, and math.

Required licenses, certificates, skills, and/or security clearances:
  • Avionics Technicians that do not have an A&P License will be required to submit an application to the FAA for issuance of a Repairman’s Certificate under 14 CFR 65.101-107

  • Working knowledge of FAR 145, 91 and 43.

  • Avionics Maintenance experience in maintaining light general aviation aircraft preferred.

  • Basic PC Software Skills (e.g. spreadsheet, word processing & database etc.).

  • PowerPoint, Word, Outlook/email, and Internet end-user applications preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills are required.
