Chemical Safety Manager (at the rank of Technical Manger) in the Safety Office (Ref.: 516123) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)
Applicants should possess a Master’s degree or above in Chemistry or Physical Science with at least 3 years’ post-qualification working experience at a responsible position involving staff supervision in laboratory or industrial production. They should have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; a strong sense of responsibility; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; good interpersonal and communication skills; and good leadership qualities. They should also have extensive practical experience working in a chemical laboratory or a related environment; and sound knowledge of relevant Hong Kong Ordinances, including but not limited to CAP 295 and CAP 354. Preference will be given to those who hold relevant professional qualification(s) in Occupational Health and Safety and/or Occupational Hygiene. Solid experience in the design, development and/or implementation of chemical inventory systems with a proven track record of working with and producing reports based on analysis of large volumes of data would be an advantage.
The appointee will provide chemical safety advice to the University community on laboratory and chemical safety matters; maintain and build constructive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and cultivate a positive laboratory safety culture through provision of chemical safety advice, laboratory safety inspections, investigations into laboratory and chemical accidents, and preparation of promotional materials; manage a small team delivering and handling dangerous goods as well as collection of hazardous wastes; provide emergency response outside normal office hours, which on occasion may require attendance on site; and perform other duties as assigned within the general area of chemical safety management.
