Position Description:
POSITION SUMMARY

The Painter reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor, Bond Services, Facilities and Bond Program at the District Office. The work schedule is 12 months per year; Monday - Friday; 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This position is represented by the California School Employees Association (CSEA), Chapter 363.

POSITION PURPOSE

Under general supervision, incumbents perform journeyman level work on the district buildings and surfaces by preparing surfaces, mixing, matching, applying paints, stains and finishes on surfaces using a variety of tools to perform painting projects, including minor repairs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Prepare walls and other surfaces for covering application.

2. Select the correct tools, equipment and surface finishes for projects.

3. Mix and apply paints, varnishes, stains and sealants for a lasting finish.

4. Cover exposed objects and surfaces.

5. Mix and match paints and finish products of various consistencies and colors.

6. Use fillers and other surface preparation products such as primers, putty and plaster for repairs.

7. Apply paints to all types of surfaces using such equipment as brushes, rollers, conventional and airless spray equipment.

8. Hang vinyl, wallpaper and other surfaces applied products.

9. Maintain painting equipment in good clean operable condition.

10. Cut, replace and glaze glass.

11. Perform general maintenance work as required, including cleanup of spaces, equipment and tools after painting is completed.

12. Perform other related duties as assigned related to the job classification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:


1. Methods, materials and equipment used in the painting, finishing and glazing trade.

2. The basic qualities of various paints and sealers used for building plant purposes and their adaptability and uses in the specific situations.

3. Safety factors in the operation of equipment and materials.

4. Modern office methods and equipment including computer terminal usage and office application software.

Ability to:

1. Mix and match paints and surface finishes, to blend, harmonize and contrast colors.

2. Apply paints and surface finishes by brush, roller or spray gun.

3. Use and care for painting tools and equipment.

4. Prepare and work from ladders, scaffolds or mechanical lift.

5. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

6. Work cooperatively with others.

7. Operate and maintain a variety of equipment and tools in safe, clean and proper working condition.

8. Observe safety requirements and safe work practices and methods as required.

Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1. Educational equivalent to the completion of the 12th grade.

2. Two years’ experience in painting work, including experience at the journeyman level.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Possession of a valid California driver’s license.

Desired Qualifications:
1. Bilingual abilities, desirable.

    Salary Range:
    $73,473 - $89,649 Annual Salary (Range 100: Classified Salary Schedule Fiscal Year 2021-2022). Starting placement is generally at Step 1.
