The Gillings School of Global Public Health (http://www.sph.unc.edu/) is the top public school of public health in the nation and tied for second among all schools of public health (U.S. News & World Report, 2022). With seven departments and one interdisciplinary program, the Gillings School has over 2200 enrolled students, 240 full time faculty and over 70 different degrees and certificates, including professional and academic programs offered in both residential and online formats.

To train public health professionals for the 21st century, the Gillings School offers a state-of-the-science, evidence-based public health curriculum for bachelors, masters and doctoral students that meets or exceeds accreditation requirements from the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).  A few individual degrees are also certified by independent accreditors such as Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) and Accreditation Council for Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) and these accreditation efforts must be coordinated with overall schoolwide CEPH and university SACSCOC accreditation efforts.

The Director of Academic Assessment and Accreditation co-leads, with the Director of Strategic Analysis and Business Intelligence (SABI), the Schoolwide Evaluation Committee (SEC).  The SEC ensures we have data needed to meet/exceed accreditation requirements and meet our overall goal of data-driven continuous quality improvement (CQI). This work includes, but is not limited to, development, analysis and reporting of surveys for students, faculty, staff, alumni and other key stakeholders, as well as helping to coordinate schoolwide evaluation processes and deliverables.

Additionally, this position will work alongside the Sr. Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs to ensure Gillings is timely and in full compliance with all accreditation standards and best practices.  The Director will co-lead CEPH and SACSCOC accreditation processes, interpret and apply teaching and learning-related laws, provide school-wide consultation on standards, interpret accreditation changes, and deliver workable solutions. The Director is the main liaison to our accreditation agencies and is a leader for our overall schoolwide accreditation effort.

As part of the SEC work, the Director of Academic Assessment and Accreditation leads evaluation and assessment in the curriculum domain and is a key driver and advocate for curriculum CQI. The Director also leads schoolwide efforts around curriculum assessment, consistent with accreditation processes that help drive student success. The Director works collaboratively and often in a consultation role with chairs, program directors, other key stakeholders.  The Director reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs.

Education Requirements:

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities related to the development or administration of academic standards or curricula, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Training in higher education administration, public health, curriculum, instruction, evaluation or assessment or a related field necessary.
• Training in public health desirable. 
• Masters or Doctoral degree highly desirable, but not required. 
• Understanding and experience with accreditation requirements in higher education.
• Experience with accreditation requirements in public health is a strong plus.
• Understanding and experience with curriculum and higher education assessment using mixed methods approaches.
• Qualtrics or other survey experience is a strong plus. 
• Understanding of and experience with major issues and trends in adult education, teaching and learning. 
• Demonstrated skill in clear, effective communication-both oral and writing-with diverse constituencies. 
• Track record of leading and managing short- and long-term projects with multiple stakeholders, including meeting accreditation and reporting deadlines
• Track record of effective collaboration with academic, administrative and regulatory stakeholders in academic environments. 
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
