The basics of this position:

Supports students, student interns, faculty, staff, and CRO clients by minimizing down-time of malfunctioning lab instruments/equipment and building support systems; by documenting best-use protocols for and demonstrating proper and safe use of the same; by managing the CPLS users website content for all lab equipment/instrument protocols, user manuals, and maintenance documentation.
Performs equipment and location safety testing and researches and verifies applicable safety requirements are being met.

What you'll do:
  • Laboratory and Office Equipment/Instrumentation:
    • Assist interns, students, faculty, staff, and others as required to operate instrumentation, AV, computers, and support equipment
    • Test, repair, and maintain equipment and instruments used in the labs and offices; develop maintenance schedules; coordinate repair calls and service when in-house repair not feasible or required by in-place service contracts
    • Maintain database of equipment and instruments specifications and maintenance requirements
    • Maintain and test controllers, PCs, laptops associated with instruments; coordinate and resolve issues with IT
    • For new equipment, instruments, and supplies: assist in defining requirements; assist Lab, CRO, and Program managers in identification, selection and procurement; log, unpack, install, test, validate, and add info to databases for future support; and coordinate with Building, STLCC departments, and vendors/suppliers for shipment, installation, operation, and maintenance
    • Assist Lab Manager and college Safety Officer in meeting Safety and Risk Management requirements; conduct required periodic testing, e.g. Emergency Shower and Wash testing
    • Research, define, document requirements for operation of building support systems (e.g. water, HVAC, vacuum, pressure, emergency, power, safety, etc.) and perform required maintenance and testing
    • Research, study, and learn new tools and applications to customize and expand CPLS website in support of CRO or other requirements
    SOPs/Protocols and Website:
    • Research, prepare, test, validate, and maintain SOPs/Protocols for equipment, instrumentation, and specific labs and assays
    • Maintain and expand Users website for Center for Plant and Life Sciences activities
    • Research and extend Users website to include areas for Safety and Risk Management (online SDS, Emergency procedures)
    • Assist faculty and staff in computer, network, web, applications, etc.
    Additional Responsibilities:
    • Support tours and public and College events and activities conducted at BRDG Park
    • Perform other job related duties as assigned
Education, experience, and other requirements:

Associate degree or equivalent and over one (1) year of relevant full-time experience
(Equivalent=minimum of 34 credit hours and an additional 2 years of relevant full-time experience)

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience developing lab equipment/instrument SOPs
Possess a strong commitment to a team environment
Strong mechanical aptitude, comfort working and repairing equipment
Excellent computer, office software, and database user skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to prioritize multiple job tasks efficiently
Abide by GLP standards and follow standard operating procedures
