Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Biostatistics invites applications for a full-time 12-month, tenure-eligible, assistant professor. The mission of the Department of Biostatistics is to improve human health through methodological research, graduate education, and collaboration with health science researchers on biostatistical methods and applications. Our focus includes designing and helping conduct novel clinical trials for investigating potential cancer therapies. We collaborate with public health research teams on complicated hierarchical, multifaceted health problems. As educators, we aim to train the next generation of biostatisticians and data scientists in methodological, collaborative, and leadership skills. We are seeking applicants who will teach one of the required courses in the doctoral program. These courses include but are not limited to: Mathematical Statistics, Biostatistical Computing, Analysis of Biomedical Data, Clinical Trials, Advanced Inference, Survival Analysis, Spatial Analysis, Biostatistical Methods, and Longitudinal Data Analysis. In addition to contributing to the teaching mission, the candidate should have the training and research interest in the design and statistical analysis of high-throughput genomic data (e.g., microarray, next-generation sequencing, proteomics, and other ‘omics’ technologies, and the microbiome), bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, Bayesian statistics, data mining, longitudinal and hierarchical modeling, nonparametric methods, survival analysis, and statistical computing or in closely related areas. Additional teaching and research skills on novel statistical methods beyond the areas mentioned above are considered a plus.
