The Financial Aid Advisor ensures efficient and precise processing and awarding of Federal financial aid while remaining in compliance with state, federal and institutional regulations, and policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for oversight and management of the transfer monitoring process
  • Required to identify any conflicting information reported on the FAFSA using various reports and software, and communicates with students regarding additional documentation needed to complete verification and/or resolve discrepancies on the FAFSA
  • Assists in performing the federal verification process and reporting results as regulated by the US Department of Education
  • Reviews all necessary documents for the verification process through Campus Logic software and sends corrections to the Department of Education when needed
  • Monitors and reviews Cflags as necessary for federal financial aid eligibility
  • Reviews various reports including but not limited to PELL LEU, MRR, POP to insure compliance with federal regulations and communicates with other institutions to resolve any discrepancies
  • Provides appropriate and accurate information to all prospective and continuing students and/or parents regarding educational costs, availability of financial aid resources, program eligibility, application and verification process, and strategies for meeting college costs
  • Responsible for processing documents submitted online, via fax or paper and indexing the documents to the imaging system (Banner Document Manager)
  • Assists in the preliminary review of verification documents and outgoing communication with students via phone, email and mail
  • Reports verification status to the Department of Education as required by federal regulatory requirements
  • Provides counseling for students/parents regarding their financial aid status
  • Assists with phones during high peak times and seeing walk-ins and referrals from the Mocs One Center as needed
  • Serves as the first point of contact for customer service and Mocs One Center inquiries regarding verification
  • Serves as the first point of contact to students/parents regarding a professional judgment
  • Oversees the processing of online, paper, fax and email documents, including performing quality control tasks, which include documents submitted through Campus Logic and Dynamic Forms
  • Makes decisions about what is acceptable and corresponds with students when the documentation is not acceptable
  • Assists the Assistant Director with managing Campus Logic and Next Gen Softwares- Scholarship Manager (used for scholarships) and Dynamic Forms (used for online forms); this includes setting up rules for scholarship awarding, managing data entry to and from these systems, creating new forms and identifying issues
  • Assists with other processing functions as needed
  • Provides on /off campus presentations to high school, civic clubs, etc. concerning financial aid opportunities and processes

  • Self-starter and ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to work in a computerized environment
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and faculty as needed in a group setting or individual basis
  • Basic computer software skills including MS Office required

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience .

Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in Financial Aid performing verification and/or processing student aid; and Banner experience.
