The History department at the University of Iowa invites applications for a position in African American History (pre-1900) at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin August 2023.

The successful candidate must have a record of excellence in research and scholarship in African American history; be prepared to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in African American history (including the two-part survey course), as well as courses tailored to their own research specialization; and be prepared to engage the programmatic missions of the department.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in History or related field in hand by August 15, 2023. Application materials should be submitted electronically to http://jobs.uiowa.edu (refer to requisition #74557) and include a letter of interest addressed to the African American History ­Search Committee, a curriculum vitae, a substantial sample of written work, ideally the dissertation or book manuscript*, a 1-page teaching statement, and a sample syllabus, and the names/contact information of three referees.  Screening will begin September 15 and continue until an offer made.
