Position Description Summary/Purpose :

The Program Director of the Fones School of Dental Hygiene will support the Dean of the College of Health Sciences to work with the College directors and faculty to articulate a strategic plan and vision for the College and the individual Schools to advance the University’s Mission as well as serve as the Chief Academic Officer of the Fones School of Dental Hygiene.

As it relates to the Fones School of Dental Hygiene, the Director will provide logistical support to the Dean creating Information Analysis and Reports, Academic Planning, Financial Reports and Budgeting, Marketing and Communication, Fundraising, Accreditation, Research and Publication, and the promotion of programs with Integrative and Inter-professional healthcare initiatives on campus and in the community.

Reporting to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences, the Program Director is the Chief Academic Officer of the Fones School of Dental Hygiene. Working collaboratively with the faculty, in the Program Director role, she/he is responsible for the effective delivery of educational programs ensuring that they are consistent with the mission of the University of Bridgeport and of the Fones School of Dental Hygiene.





The College of Health Sciences is an integrated body, which includes the School of Nursing, School of Chiropractic, Physician Assistant Institute, Acupuncture Institute, Fones School of Dental Hygiene, and Nutrition Institute.

Faculty members of these units serve as a single faculty of this College, and as members at the institutional level in the Fones School of Dental Hygiene.



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Preparation of the operating budget of the Fones School of Dental Hygiene and monitoring of all financial transactions relative to same;
  • Oversee and monitor the facilities and maintenance, in conjunction with the U.B. facilities department, for the Fones School of Dental Hygiene;
  • Approve all faculty and staff personnel within the Fones School of Dental Hygiene;
  • Perform annual performance evaluations for all administrative and faculty appointments;
  • Recommend to the Provost and College Dean hiring, reappointment, rank, promotion of School faculty and advise the Provost and Dean on recommendations for termination of faculty;
  • Assume leadership role in educational effectiveness assessment and planning, and accreditation compliance for the Fones School of Dental Hygiene;
  • Represent the School on appropriate University committees and insure the full integration of the Fones School of Dental Hygiene within the College of Health Sciences and the University of Bridgeport;
  • Establish together with the Dean of Admissions, other College of Health Sciences School Directors and the College Dean, enrollment goals and collaborate with the admissions department in achieving them;
  • Serve as the American Dental Association (ADA) designee of the University of Bridgeport with regard to the Fones School of Dental Hygiene as well as other relevant accrediting regulatory agencies;
  • Provide leadership to the School for fundraising and grant writing in conjunction with the Institutional Advancement department and represent the Fones School of Dental Hygiene at a professional, public relations and fundraising events;
  • Contribute articles on the Fones School of Dental Hygiene and professional matters to local and professional publications;
  • Serve as the Ex-officio member on all Fones School of Dental Hygiene committees;
  • Must teach 3 credits per each semester.
  • Be available for other duties as requested.
REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:
  • An earned terminal degree from an accredited institution of higher learning, in a health-related or education field. Consideration will be given to those candidates who have the requisite experience and who are A.B.D. or near completion.
  • RDH (or RDH eligible) and CT licensure (or eligible).
  • Qualification include three years of experience such as that of a dean/director/associate director or supervisor in a college, university or equivalent institution. In addition, a minimum of three years of teaching experience, preferably in a dental hygiene.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:



  • Commitment to the principles of dental hygiene medicine;
  • Knowledge of current clinical practices in dental hygiene;
  • High level of knowledge and skills in all aspects of budget management, curriculum development, educational effectiveness assessment, program strategic planning, accreditation compliance, faculty and student issues, fund raising, and enrollment management;
  • Solid interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work on cross functional teams in both leadership and member roles;
  • Strong presentation, writing and research skills;
  • Proven ability to work in complex, collaborative environments;
  • Self-motivated and an independent thinker who can meet deadlines, deal with conflicting priorities and have very strong interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to solicit cooperation from persons and departments throughout the University;
  • Ability to work with ethnically, culturally, and socially diverse students, staff, faculty, and other constituencies required.


Some evenings and a flexible schedule is required.
