Johns Hopkins, founded in 1876, is America's first research university and home to nine world-class academic divisions working together as one university.

Description

Johns Hopkins University seeks a postdoctoral fellow for a joint appointment in the Center for Talented Youth (CTY) and the School of Education (SOE) to work on projects aimed at test revision and innovation. The fellowship will be under the direction of Thanos Patelis, PhD, Director of Test Development and Assessment at CTY, and Amy Lynne Shelton, PhD, professor and associate dean at SOE and senior director of research at CTY. Scholars who have completed a Ph.D. in educational psychology, psychometrics, quantitative psychology, school psychology, or a related field with interest/experience in standardized testing and test development are invited to apply.

CTY is dedicated to identifying and developing the talents of academically advanced pre-college students around the world. CTY serves bright learners and their families through research, advocacy, and counseling, as well as gifted and talented summer, online, and international programs. Annually, CTY enrolls more than 20,000 students from across the United States and more than 60 countries.

The CTY Testing unit is part of the Research and Evaluation Department and is responsible for a wide range of operational, maintenance, and development activities of tests used at CTY. The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with the testing and research staff as well as other units, external contractors, and CTY’s technical advisory committee on operational activities (e.g., scoring and reporting of test scores), maintenance activities (e.g., facilitating item development and undertaking psychometric analyses and validation studies), and development activities (e.g., construct definition, performance level expectations, norms development). This work intersects with the work of the CTY Research Lab on more equitable and accessible methods of identifying and characterizing academic talent and supports CTY’s broader effort to become an anti-racist organization.

The fellowship provides a competitive stipend and other benefits for a one-year position, renewable annually for a total of two years. The fellow may extend the appointment through appropriate external funding at the individual or project level as available. The selected candidate will be appointed as a postdoctoral fellow through the School of Education where training will include access to the rich academic environment (seminars, colloquia, teaching opportunities, etc.) and work on projects as part of the CTY Research and Evaluation team.
